Tributes paid to ‘cherished’ Sunderland steward Donna Weir



Donna Weir was known for her ‘compassionate soul’ and generous nature, opening her home to academy players, and was described as ‘more than a familiar face’ at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland AFC has planned a tribute for Ms Weir during their first Premier League game of the season against West Ham on Saturday, August 16.

To commemorate her contribution, a round of applause will be held in the 62nd minute of the match.

A spokesperson for the Wearside club said: “Everyone at Sunderland AFC is deeply saddened by the passing of Donna Weir, one of our dedicated matchday stewards.

“Donna, aged 62, was much more than a familiar face on matchdays.
