Dune enthusiasts have been left stunned by an unrecognisable cast member featured in the newly-released trailer for Part 3.
The sweeping science fiction franchise is set to reach its conclusion on December 18th with the third and final instalment. Adapted from Frank Herbert’s acclaimed novel Dune Messiah, celebrated director Denis Villeneuve returns once again to helm the picture.
Following 2024’s Dune Part 2, the forthcoming thriller will be set 17 years after the events of the sequel. With central protagonist Paul Atreides now commanding extraordinary power, the third chapter is said to be more action-packed than its predecessors.
“It’s a very different movie from the first two,” Villeneuve explained in a Q&A event held before the trailer’s release.
He continued: “If the first movie was more of a contemplation, of a boy exploring a new world, and the second one being a war movie, this one is a thriller. It’s a more action-packed and more dense film,” reports the Mirror.
Audiences can expect to witness Paul grappling with how to escape the cycle of violence he is at the centre of. His tumultuous relationship with Chani will also remain central to the narrative.
Here is a look at the stars headlining the forthcoming film and how they appear in their Arrakis attire.
Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet reprises the leading role of Paul Atreides.
Paul’s partner Chani will once again be portrayed by two-time Emmy winner Zendaya.
Twilight star Robert Pattinson will be joining the cast for Part 3, but fans almost didn’t recognise him in the trailer. He portrays villain Scytale, who belongs to a shape-shifting society capable of assuming any identity they choose.
Fans have immediately been left astonished by Pattinson’s transformation for the role, with many confessing they assumed the character was played by Sting, frontman of legendary rock band The Police.
Taking to the YouTube comments section, one fan said: “Pattinson’s Scytale looking like Sting,” another agreed: “That was Pattinson! ? ! I thought it was Sting XD.”
Whilst a third penned: “Literally my first thought when I saw him,” and yet another viewer noted: “D*mn Robert Pattinson became Sting!”.
Rebecca Ferguson reprises her role as Lady Jessica, Paul’s mother.
Paul’s younger sister, Alia, will be portrayed by Emmy nominee Anya Taylor-Joy.
Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Florence Pugh will return as Princess Irulan, who is married to Paul in title only.
Academy Award winner Javier Bardem will reprise his role as Stilgar, a faithful follower of Paul.
Fans may be surprised to learn that Jason Momoa is back as swordsman Duncan Idaho, after he died in Dune Part 1. The details of his ‘resurrection’ will come to light in the forthcoming film.
Isaach De Bankolé as Farok Black Panther actor Isaach De Bankolé is set to portray Farok, a Fremen from Sietch Tab.
