England will storm into the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with a convincing win over Norway if our simulation of the crunch tie gets it right. But this meeting of two of world football’s best leading men had no impact on what has been a thrilling Golden Boot race during this tournament.
Erling Haaland and Harry Kane arrive in Miami as the tournament’s leading Golden Boot contenders, their goals having driven their respective nations to the last eight. Yet in a stunning twist, both world-class finishers drew a complete blank across 90 minutes in our EA Sports FC 26 simulation.

While the elite strikers faltered, it was the midfield engine room that ultimately decided the tie.

Haaland’s evening was one of mounting anguish – first denied at point-blank range by Jordan Pickford’s outstretched trailing foot on 55 minutes after Sander Berge had rattled the woodwork, then watching his audacious 77th-minute rocket cannon back off the crossbar.
Kane, locked out of the game by Norway’s resolute defensive shape, showed his class in a different way entirely – dropping off the backline to thread a clever ball inside the box for Anthony Gordon, whose 68th-minute finish into the top corner put England back in front.
The tactical takeaway for Tuchel was emphatic and unmistakable: when the main strikers are locked down, England’s midfield is more than capable of carrying the goalscoring burden.
Bellingham provided the ultimate proof of that in the 93rd minute, capping a patient, composed move on the edge of the Norway box with a clinical finish into the roof of the net from six yards to seal the win.

Neither striker added to their tally in this simulation, with the golden boot race between them remaining delicately poised heading into the last four.
Pre-match discussion centred on two of the planet’s finest forwards going head-to-head, yet the outcome was ultimately determined by a maverick midfielder increasingly establishing himself as England’s standout performer of the tournament.
Nobody would be happier than Kane with Bellingham’s brilliance, and should that prove to be the reality around midnight back home this evening, England supporters will be overjoyed as well.
