The hunt for the next James Bond continues, and although the final decision has not yet been made, a new name has been thrown into the hat – and it’s someone gamers might recognise from Battlefield 1.
As reported by GameSpot, entertainment industry veteran and insider, Richard Osman, MGM Studios is reportedly considering Jack Lowden for the role of 007. Lowden has appeared in a few other British productions, but gamers will most likely know him as playing T.E. Lawrence in the Lawrence of Arabia level of Battlefield 1’s campaign.
Speaking on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Osman didn’t identify his source, but did tell him that Lowden is ‘for definite’ in the pool of actors being considered for the role.
Lowden does have the chops for playing a British spy, having starred in Apple TV’s Slow Horses. That being said, his character in that show is meant to be a bit of a bumbling spy who gets by through sheer luck most of the time, which is a far cry from the cool, calm and collected character of Bond that we know and love.
Elsewhere, Lowden has also appeared in shows such as Netflix’s soon-to-air Pride and Prejudice TV adaptation. He also already has ties to Amazon, the owner of MGM Studios, having appeared in The Rings of Power show as Sauron in a flashback to Forodwaith.
The 36-year-old actor is around the same age as when Daniel Craig was cast as Bond, who was cast at the age of 38. If successful, Lowden would also be the second Scottish actor to take on the role after Sean Connery debuted as the character in 1962.
Several other actors are also thought to be in contention for James Bond. Current front runners include Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Theo James, Josh O’Connor, as well as a few others.
MGM Studios has made no official announcement as to which actor it’s currently favouring.
Despite putting in an excellent effort as a younger James Bond for 007 First Light, Patrick GIbson is not thought to be in contention for the role.
All we do know about the new Bond movie is that it will be directed by Denis Villeneuve of Blade Runner 2049 and Dune fame.
We’ll report back when we hear more about which actor for Bond is successful in landing the role.
