Bethesda is known for publishing some of the best first person shooters of all time, and one of them just got added to a service that most gamers likely already have.
Wolfenstein 3D is widely considered as one of the most formative shooters of all time. Released in 1992, it pre-dates DOOM, and revolutionised what it meant to put the camera in a first person perspective, a gun in players hands, and to let them have at it.
Its graphics may look basic by today’s standards, but it’s still an absolute blast from the past when you pick it up and play today. Until recently, Xbox players had to fork out cash to pick up this title, but a recent refresh of Xbox Game Pass has seen it added to the service – seemingly permanently.
Bethesda and Microsoft don’t seem to be shouting about the new addition, but scroll on over to Wolfenstein 3D on the Xbox store and, sure enough, it’s now listed as being available in all the major tiers of the Game Pass subscription service.

Sadly, the game isn’t available to download and keep. As soon as you stop paying your Xbox subscription, you’ll lose access to the title.
However, it’s still worth giving a go – especially if you’re looking for something a bit more nostalgic to play this weekend.
It’s also worth remembering how the Wolfenstein series started with a new entry in the series thought to be in the works at MachineGames. More modern takes on the Wolfenstein formula have proven extremely popular in the last few decades with both The New Order and The New Colossus ranking highly among critics and fans alike.
