
Chinese memory chip giant Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) said on Sunday that it adopted its new-generation technology platform for mass production, narrowing the advantage of global leaders including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in manufacturing nodes.
CXMT’s fifth-generation technology platform, dubbed G5, achieved a “quantum leap” in storage density, with the number of dies produced per wafer increasing by at least 50 per cent from the previous generation while maintaining better energy efficiency and cost control, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
As dominant players – including South Korea’s Samsung and SK Hynix – are using 10-nanometre (nm) process technology, CXMT said it had reached the 11.95nm threshold using “quadruple exposure” technology, bringing it close to the level of “the world’s most advanced mass production memory platforms”.
CXMT also displayed two mass-produced LPDDR5X products based on the G5 platform. The high-speed, low-power dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips for mobile devices each featured a capacity of 24 gigabits, a 50 per cent increase over the previous generation of similar products.
