Nintendo fans are all looking forward to the remake of Ocarina of Time that’s set to release later in 2026. However, some fans just can’t wait the extra few months and are taking matters into their own hands.
This week, a video surfaced on YouTube of one fan’s project to remake The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time completely in Unreal Engine 5. Powered by an RTX 5090, the results are stunning with the graphics of the newer engine proving just how far technology has come since the game first released on the N64 back in 1998.
The nine-minute video shows a re-imagined version of Link exploring several of the game’s areas, each of which has been recreated in painstaking detail. The vast majority of the showcase takes place in Hyrule field, which extends for miles in front of Link as he wanders around the area.
There’s not much in the way of quests of gameplay – this is more of a technical showcase than a working demo. However, if Nintendo’s own modern version of Ocarina of Time looks anywhere near as good as this does, then fans will surely be happy when it drops.
Since it was first published, the video has since amassed over 16,000 views on YouTube and over 200 likes.
One comment reads: “I know this isn’t the real game, but it would be so cool if it were. It really does look great except for the lighting which I’m sure can be fixed. They need to give the fans what they want: an exact copy but just with way better graphics. Link even moves the same as he does in the N64 version.”
Another adds: “Can only hope the switch 2 looks half as good as this.” Meanwhile, a third says: “This looks absolutely amazing!”
However, some other gamers are quick to criticise a few of the showcase’s flaws. “I really dislike the lighting. Everything is either too bright or too dark,” reads one comment.
A second naysayer writes: “Eh, I hate to be a hater and I wear no nostalgia glasses, but this ain’t it. And it’s so so so far from what it should be that it’s pointless to even start typing why it ain’t it. Sorry.”
The video is in no way affiliated with Nintendo and is merely a fan project. Gamers are waiting patiently for Nintendo to reveal more information about the official Ocarina of Time remake, which is still scheduled to arrive in 2026.
