Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to hit PC and consoles in Spring 2027, but this week might just see players get their hands on a slither of it for the first time. However, it doesn’t seem like the demo will be distributed digitally with it only playable to those who’ve purchased tickets to a specific in-person event.
This week, Cologne is set to play host to Gamescom – the biggest gaming conference in the EU. There, hundreds of game developers will set up in the convention halls with demos of their existing and upcoming games with thousands more gamers descending to give them a try.
Earlier this week, a German publication called Gameswirtschaft published an article that listed all of the playable demos that will be available at Gamescom this week. On that list was Final Fantasy 7 Revelation which will apparently be playable in Hall 8, although the article was later amended to have its mention removed.
Square Enix has not confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be playable at Gamescom yet, although it would make sense for it to make an appearance given previous comments from director Naoki Hamaguchi.
Speaking to Automaton, Hamaguchi explained last month that the team is preparing for the public to go hands-on with the game, although he had nothing more to share at that time. “We’re also preparing a way for players and the media to try out the game at various events,” Hamaguchi said.
“I think you can probably imagine which events I’m talking about, so expect a bunch of new information from us there.”
We know that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a dedicated segment during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live presentation later tonight. It’s entirely possible that the playable demo will be announced there.
For those of us not in attendance at Gamescom, we’ll have to wait until Square Enix releases a demo that we can download and play from home. Until then, we’ll have to settle for watching the trailers that are already available.
