Fortnite x Final Fantasy 7 crossover teased by Revelations director | Gaming | Entertainment

Fortnite is home to hundreds of high-profile crossovers, from other video games to Hollywood movies. While Final Fantasy hasn’t had a crossover in Epic Games’ popular battle royale just yet, the director of the remake trilogy, Naoki Hamaguchi, has teased that it’s something he’d like to see in the future.

Speaking in an interview with Vice, Hamaguchi discussed how the parachuting mechanic in the upcoming final part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy – Revelation – is directly inspired by jumping out of the Battle Bus in Fortnite. This is where players will be able to jump out of the Highwind ship to explore the massive open world that Revelation offers.

It’s clear that Hamaguchi is a fan of what Epic Games is doing, and he also hints that a collaboration between Final Fantasy 7 and Fortnite could be on the cards in the future.

“The Fortnite team are incredible and great partners to work with,” referring to the collaboration between the studio and Square Enix on its Kingdom Hearts collaboration.

While this is the only Square Enix crossover in Fortnite right now, it might not be the last. Hamaguchi mentions that the studio has a lot of guard rails in place on collabs to ensure the Final Fantasy brand remains protected, which makes sense given how prestigious Final Fantasy 7 is on its lonesome.

While Hamaguchi didn’t confirm a Final Fantasy 7 x Fortnite collaboration outright, he did say that it could be a possibility in the future. “We are considering a lot of different collaborations at the moment,” he said.

“So, whether Fortnite is included in the list of potential collaboration partners, that’s something for the fans to look forward to.”

FF7 is filled with iconic gaming characters that could easily translate into Fortnite’s ‘Ready Player One’-esque world. Skins of Cloud, Aerith and Tifa would surely be welcomed with open arms in the item shop.

That being said, it’s Barret that Hamaguchi would most like to see appear in Fortnite. ““Given that Fortnite is a game where characters have their own guns that they equip and play with, I was thinking about how Barret would work in that game, given that his entire arm is already a gun,” he says.

We’ll report back if Epic Games and Square Enix do announce a proper crossover between the two massive games.
