We’re just a few days away from Rockstar unveiling the world’s first official look at GTA 6 on Netflix, but unfortunately for the developer giant, the alleged leaks just haven’t stopped coming. For the last week, an online group or individual known as ‘CyberLeek’ has been releasing short gameplay clips that they claim to be from a leaked playable build of GTA 6 – and they look pretty convincing.
So far, the clips have shown what seems to be gameplay of protagonist Jason flying a plane, driving through city suburbs, and even entering the game’s strip club. Although Rockstar itself has stayed quiet, parent company Take-Two has issued subpoenas in an attempt to figure out who on earth is leaking this alleged footage.
However, there was one report over the weekend that has now been debunked as false. Reported by Insider Gaming, the publication claimed that CyberLeek had set up a ‘dead man’s switch’ that would publish the entire supposed leaked build of GTA 6 online if they didn’t manually stop it once every 24 hours.
As such, if the person or people behind CyberLeek were to be arrested, then Take-Two and Rockstar would run the risk of the build getting published online for gamers to illegally download and redistribute. Such a scenario would be a nightmare for the companies, with GTA 6 mostly kept tightly under wraps ahead of what’s set to be one of the biggest entertainment launches of the year, if not decade.
Following that initial report, Insider Gaming has since retracted their article, claiming that the original source for the dead man’s switch has since been debunked as fake. “On August 22, I penned an article concerning a threat made by the CYBERLEEK entity to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, which suggested they’d release a full build of Grand Theft Auto 6 if the organizations refused to relent in their legal pursuit of the group,” writes author Grant Taylor-Hill in an updated article.
“Unfortunately, this article was based on an image and discourse that have since been proven false, manufactured and circulated online by one of the many people copying or aping what CYBERLEEK is doing, for whatever reason. As you can likely understand, this means that the original report has been scrapped and publicly debunked.”
So far, the only official footage of GTA 6 that Rockstar Games has revealed is in the official Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 videos from 2023 and 2025. The Netflix Extended Look is set to kick off at 8pm BST on Thursday, August 27.
The Extended Look will go live on YouTube six hours later for everyone to watch for free.
