The unknown actor in question, who could well be the new James Bond, is Jack Barton. In fact, he’s so unknown that he doesn’t have any odds to be the new 007. The 31-year-old English actor, who shares UK publicists with Daniel Craig, has had roles in the TV shows Heartstopper and SAS: Rogue Heroes. Meanwhile, his only film credit is a small role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.
Barton is notably slim and a far cry from Craig’s muscular Bond. Perhaps director Denis Villeneuve is going for Ian Fleming’s view of the character, who he imagined looked like Hoagy Carmichael. It’s also unknown if the new Bond film will be set in the modern period or the 1950s setting of the original novels. Given Craig’s incarnation was blown to smithereens, a total reset would make sense. Bond producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that the new 007 star will be announced by the end of the year.
