CD Projekt RED might not have given us any gameplay of The Witcher 3’s upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, during Gamescom Opening Night Live, but it has been trickling out new gameplay over on its RED Streams this week – and there’s about 13 minutes of it available for our perusal.
Songs of the Past is set to be the third expansion for The Witcher 3, arriving more than a decade after Blood and Wine seemingly capped off Geralt’s adventures. It will bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4 in 2028, with it utilising a bunch of upgrades arriving next month as part of a free remastered update.
The 13 minutes of gameplay wasn’t broadcast in one go, but was instead collated over on YouTube by Dan Allen Gaming. There, the individual clips have been stitched together to give us a closer look at what to expect from the Songs of the Past DLC.
The video starts out by giving us a closer look at Letten, the brand new area introduced with the DLC. This is located between Kovir and Kaedwen in the Northern Realms, which is north of where the main game of The Witcher 3 takes place.
It’s also the birthplace of Dandelion, the bard companion of Geralt who’s set to return in the expansion.
The gameplay shows Geralt exploring part of the new area on the back of Roach. It’s here that we can see the upgraded lighting from the remastered version of The Witcher 3 on display, which showcases the new area in an impressive way.
Later, we also get a glimpse of the brand new character Lilla, who meets with Geralt on one of the expansion’s quests. It seems as though she’ll be a romanceable character too, in typical Witcher style.
And towards the end of the gameplay clips, CD Projekt RED gives us a tease of the new chain weapon, an iconic piece of gear from The Witcher lore that’s not been seen in the games until now. It’s set to be a great addition for crowd control, with it capable of pulling enemies in closer and even opening them up to incredible new finished animations.
The Witcher 3 Remastered is set to launch on September 29, 2026, and will be free to everyone who already owns a copy of the game. Meanwhile, the Songs of the Past expansion will arrive sometime in 2027.
What do you make of the latest Witcher 3 Songs of the Past gameplay?
