A major UK film distributor has gone into administration after three years of operation. The company specialised in acquiring the UK rights for major theatre releases, including the recently released Hugh Jackman film, The Death of Robin Hood.
True Brit Entertainment, founded by veteran film executive Zygi Kamasa in 2023, helped co-financing and producing a number of British film and TV projects during its tenure. It was announced at the end of September that the business had been put in administration, with administrators appointed to the firm earlier this week, citing “extremely challenging market conditions”. The firm was backed by talent management and entertainment company Three Six Zero.
True Brit described its vision as to become the “foremost distributor of British films in the UK”. CEO Kamasa has been in the industry for over 25 years, helping to invest in independent British films and TV projects.
He also helped finance over 50 British films, as well as leading the theatrical release of over 300 films within the UK, including blockbusters from The Hunger Games to La La Land.
Previously, Kamasa was the group CEO of Marv Studios, where he partnered with director and producer Matthew Vaughn, as well as the CEO of Lionsgates UK & Europe until 2020.
Lloyd Hinton and Kelly Knight, both of Insolve Plus Ltd, were appointed joint liquidators on October 5, according to The Gazette.
Regarding the administration, Kamasa told Deadline: “In extremely challenging market conditions, the company has taken the difficult decision to enter administration.
“An independent specialist has now been appointed to oversee the company and assess the options available, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for the company and its creditors.”
True Brit Entertainment and Insolve Plus have been contacted for comment.
