Having sold 4 million copies worldwide, 007 First Light is one of the year’s biggest gaming hits. Developers IO Interactive have celebrated the milestone, but there could be bad news for fans on the horizon.
Having been released on May 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, 007 First Light was actually delayed from its initial March 2026 window. In the following months, it went on to be praised by critics and fans alike. But Nintendo Switch 2 owners eagerly awaiting its launch on their platform have yet to be given an exact date.
The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is scheduled to release in 2026, but IO Interactive has yet to offer a more solid window than that. And now news of a further delay in Japan has some fans concerned that it could lead to being pushed back once again.
Nintendo fans have had to suffer their own delay once already, as the game was pushed back in April to the third quarter of the year. This was to allow more work on optimising the game for Switch 2, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak claimed.
However, the physical release of 007 First Light in Japan has been delayed again. South Korean company H2 Interactive, which is handling production of the physical version in Asia, confirmed that the game will be released “at a later date”.
A spokesperson said: “Regarding 007 First Light for Nintendo Switch 2, which was previously announced for release in the latter half of summer 2026, due to various circumstances, we will be announcing the release date at a later date. We will announce the expected release date as soon as it is determined, so we would appreciate your patience for a little while longer.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.” There is no confirmation as yet that this will affect other regions.
While this news raises alarm bells for Switch 2 owners, IO Interactive appears committed to delivering the game on a Nintendo console. During their recent celebration of First Light’s sales milestone, a spokesperson said: “A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow later this Summer 2026.”
Furthermore, three editions are available for Nintendo Switch 2. The standard and deluxe editions are both available digitally, but the Specialist Edition – which includes the base game plus an exclusive classic tuxedo skin – is a physical-only purchase.
Sadly for Nintendo Switch 2 fans, the Collector’s and Legacy editions – both also physical versions only – are only available on PS5, Xbox and PC.
