The new Fortnite season is almost upon us, and judging by the latest Epic Games promotional poster, it’s going to be something special. In fact, it’s looking like a celebration of all things gaming, featuring an absolute boatload of video game characters. The gaming character crossovers will be spread out across the season, with some included as Battle Pass skins, others as Sidekicks and even some gaming themed Sprites.
Titled Override – and with a tagline of ‘Break the Rules /Change the Game’ – Fortnite fans will be able to check out the new season when it launches on the morning of August 20. The game will be taken offline for extended maintenance, which will coincide with the release of a massive new update. Once everything is back online, fans can start working through the Battle Pass and unlocking some of the new video game crossover skins.
Speaking of video game crossover skins, the new promotional poster is absolutely chock-full with them.
As you can see from the tweet below (and we recommend zooming in), Override features the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Joker, Sora and Crash Bandicoot.
There are also a host of returning characters that will likely be coming back to the Item Shop during the course of the season, including Geralt of Rivia, Ryu, Lara Croft and Master Chief.
Look a little deeper and you’ll notice some real deep cuts. There are Tetris references dotted around, a character that looks like Link (but isn’t), as well as what appears to be a cameo by Hiroshi Jackson from the recent Screamer racing game.
Original Fortnite designs are also included, as well as reimaginings for previous characters like Bushranger.
There are lots of additional gaming characters and references to spot, so have a look at the artwork below and see how many characters you can name.
Elsewhere, a new Fortnite trailer gives fans a look at some of the new locations and gameplay features launching as part of the new season.
Sonic the Hedgehog will play a big part, with the Green Hill Zone joining the map, alongside Rings and speed boosters.
There’s a Pac Man island shaped like one of the game’s Ghosts, as well as a Jungle Lair and an area that appears to have been built by Doctor Robotnik.
Fans will find out more when the new season launches on August 20. Keep checking back for more information, including downtime, patch notes and lots more.
