Sasha Baron Cohen’s London rude boy character was a star of early 2000s TV in Da Ali G Show, in which he duped the likes of Donald Trump and Jacob Rees-Mogg into satirical interviews. In 2002, he starred in Ali G Indahouse, before embarking on the documentary-style films of Borat and Bruno. Now Ali G is back 24 years on for his take on the latter in the existential. Ali G: Who Iz I? And it’s Cohen’s directorial debut.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “After twenty years spent ‘chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’’, Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is 8 months pregnant. Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child’s very existence. Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film, ALI G: WHO IZ I? marks his directorial debut and will be released in cinemas on October 23 by Amazon MGM Studios.”
