Sir Michael Caine has starred in many film classics over the years. But without a doubt, his most famous has to be The Italian Job. He stars in the comedy crime caper as Charlie Croker, who forms a gang to plan a gold bullion heist in Turin, Italy, after just getting out of prison. The 1969 flick co-stars Noël Coward, Benny Hill, Raf Vallone and Tony Beckley.
Alongside Quincy Jones’ iconic soundtrack, the film famously features Getta Bloomin’ Move On aka The Self-Preservation Society, during the car chase with Minis. Meanwhile, that cliffhanger ending never did get a sequel, but Mark Wahlberg did star in a loosely based 2003 remake.
The Italian Job is on BBC Two at 5:25pm this Sunday afternoon and will be streaming on BBC iPlayer afterwards for a limited time.
