Fans hoping for news on the upcoming remake of one of the greatest video games of all time are about to get their wish. Nintendo has announced the date for its next major showcase – and confirmed there will be TWO broadcasts in a matter of days.
Today (Friday, September 4) Nintendo confirmed that a special Nintendo Direct broadcast will take place in September. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct has been announced. It will precede a second Nintendo Direct showcase set for the following day.
Nintendo Direct September 2026 dates and times confirmed
The special Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct has been confirmed for Tuesday, September 8 at 3pm BST. Nintendo have promised a “variety” of Zelda-related news, including how the company will celebrate the milestone.
A statement on Nintendo’s website reads: “Join us on Tuesday, September 8 at 3pm (UK time) for The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. The livestream will last roughly 30 minutes and will contain a variety of The Legend of Zelda-related information about the series’ 40th anniversary.”
Half an hour of Zelda updates is very welcome news for fans who have been desperate for more information about the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 announced back in June. But given that the Direct is pre-confirmed to be focused on the franchise anniversary and not just the remake, what can we expect?
A lengthy gameplay trailer for the remake is unlikely, although we will surely see some action from the hotly-anticipated title. An exact release date is also probably going to be announced during the 40th Anniversary Direct, given that Nintendo have not officially confirmed anything other than it being launched in 2026.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be Nintendo without a little surprise. Expect for the Direct to reveal something we didn’t see coming to celebrate 40 glorious years of The Legend of Zelda.
But that’s not all. Nintendo also confirmed that a general Direct will take place next week too.
The broader Nintendo Direct showcase for September 2026 will happen at 3pm BST on Wednesday, September 9. Nintendo have promised the broadcast will last for “around 45 minutes”.
It’ll be focused on games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in time for Christmas. There might be an update on the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light, which is still currently expected to release before the year ends.
The Direct takes place just over a month before Nintendo Switch Sports Resort’s release date of October 22, so that could well feature. The Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is also due out in December, so there’s a good chance we’ll get a look at that as well.
Other titles coming to Switch 2 this winter include the Guitar Hero-revival title Stage Tour (December 10), Metaphor ReFantazio (November 12) and the second part of Pokemon Pokopia’s Expansion Pass. We might even get some gameplay footage of FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods following its Network Test in August.
