Beatlemania: The Fab Four Change the World | Music | Entertainment

It’s now more than 60 years since the Fab Four began a career that spanned a decade.

And in the third part of this exclusive series looking back at the history of the world’s greatest band, we roll the clock back to the mid-60s. You can order a copy online here.

Inventive and original from the beginning, the Fab Four defined the sound of the decade and continue to influence artists today. On the way from Merseybeat to psychedelia and beyond, they have left an unmatched body of work.

This special publication – the third of four – follows John, Paul, George and Ringo as they leave their often chaotic touring days behind to concentrate instead on the magic they were learning to create in the recording studio.

While the hits never dried up, here was a new, more experimental version of the band, moving from the Merseybeat of She Loves You to the hypnotic rhythms of Tomorrow Never Knows and the genius of the Sergeant Pepper album.

This was a time to explore the mysticism of the Maharishi and Indian culture, and broadcast their message of All You Need Is Love to the world.

But the death of manager Brian Epstein put their fame into perspective, as did the negative reaction to their 1967 film Magical Mystery Tour.

With pictures from Mirrorpix and Getty Images archives, we trace the band’s progress in the period 1965-67 as they set the mood of the Swinging Sixties and created some of their most memorable music.
