The thrilling war drama is based on five major operations that took place during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, namely the Battle of Manawar Tawi, the Battle of Basantar, the Air defence of Srinagar, the Naval engagement involving the INS Khukri, and Operation Chengiz Khan and makes for a riveting watch.

The film’s official plot states: “Young Indian fighters prepared to protect their homeland from a greater threat during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.”

Border 2 was a mammoth commercial success in India, grossing almost ₹470 crore ($48 million) at the global box-office.

The war epic was filmed at several Indian defense bases to lend it authenticity, and military experts were consulted to accurately depict the events and the military of both India and Pakistan.

Border 2 also utilised 1970s weaponry to further the realisticness of the war drama, such as the use of MMGs, LMGs, SLRs, jeep-mounted RCLs, Mortars, and Browning Hi-Power Pistols. The highlight was the use of a Carl-Gustaf M2 Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher by the film’s lead, Sunny Deol.

Critics were impressed with the war drama, as one wrote: “Border 2 salutes Indian patriotism in this standalone sequel to 1997’s Border, which is also set during the India–Pakistan war of 1971. Don’t expect historical accuracy in Border 2. It’s an absorbing story about friendship, courage, and sacrifices.”
