Back in 2017, James Graham wrote his Rupert Murdoch play Ink, about Rupert Murdoch and Larry Lamb’s groundbreaking re-launch of The Sun and how it changed tabloid journalism the world over with Page 3 and beyond. Now the playwright has penned the script of a film adaptation directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle, starring Guy Pearce as Murdoch and next James Bond favourite Jack O’Connell as Lamb, alongside Claire Foy as reporter Jules Davies.

Ahead of its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival this evening, the first Ink teaser trailer has launched this afternoon, offering “an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news – one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.”

Graham once revealed that Murdoch himself saw the play a couple of times. And while he doesn’t share the media mogul’s politics, his aim in his plays is to make the other side of his own worldview appealing, so audiences feel and understand why such figures become so successful.

Ink hits UK cinemas on January 8, 2026.
