Hollywood insiders have been corroborating that the next James Bond shortlist is down to Callum Turner, Jack Barton and Jack Lowden. Slow Horses fans will be familiar with the latter, who is also Saoirse Ronan’s husband and will be playing Mr Darcy in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The 36-year-old Scot is currently 6-4 with Coral Bookmakers as their favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming’s 007 on the big screen. And now his co-star, Gary Oldman, claims the new Bond has already been decided.
Speaking with Canada’s The Morning Show, the Oscar-winner said: “It’s been rumoured that [Lowden] is on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
It’s unclear here if Oldman was hinting that he knew Lowden had been cast as the new Bond or was just saying he’d heard that whoever it is has been cast and he’s hoping it’s his Slow Horses co-star. New Bond producer Amy Pascal teased earlier this summer that Amazon MGM Studios will likely announce the new 007 star by the end of the year.
