Battlefield 6 will be free to play next week alongside Top Gun crossover | Gaming | Entertainment

EA has just dropped the brand new trailer for the Battlefield 6 x Top Gun crossover, and it’s brought the welcome surprise that the game will also be free to play for a week starting on August 18.

The Top Gun collaboration is part of the mid-season update for Season 4, which heavily focuses on naval warfare. Now, players will be taking to the skies to compete in a new Gauntlet mode dubbed ‘Fighter Sweep’.

In the mode, players will only be able to spawn in two-seater jets, competing in dog fights to earn kills and capture objectives. The new two seater jets are one of two new air vehicles, including the F-74A Seacat and the F/A-81F Super Spectre.

New cosmetic items will be available to purchase as part of the Top Gun crossover, including character skins for Rooster, Bob, and Warlock from the Top Gun Maverick movie. You might recognize their actors as Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman and Charles Parnel respectively.

Sadly, there’s no Tom Cruise in sight for this collaboration.

Also arriving in the new update is Wake Island, a reworked version of perhaps the most classic Battlefield map of all time.

The new update is set to arrive on August 18. At the same time, a free week will open up, allowing any gamer to log on and try Battlefield 6 completely free.

After the free trial ends, players will need to purchase the full game to continue playing. Any progression earned during the free week will carry over to the full game.

The free trial grants access to the multiplayer of Battlefield 6. Redsec, the game’s battle royale mode, remains free to play all year round.

Will you be jumping into the Battlefield 6 x Top Gun crossover event for free next week?
