We knew that we would be getting our first look at the new Witcher 3 expansion at Gamescom Opening Night Live, but we weren’t quite expecting to get a full on remaster of the original game at the same time. CD Projekt RED took to the stage last night to surprise gamers with a full-on remaster of the original game – and best of all, it’s completely free of charge to those who already own it.
The Witcher 3 Remastered will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC on September 29, 2026. It will feature massively upgraded visuals, as well as tweaks to combat finishers, quest tracking, and so much more.
Plus, all owners of the original game will also get the two existing expansions thrown in for free. That includes both Hearts of Stone and Blood of Wine, which are home to some of the best stories The Witcher 3 had to offer.
While the developer went over some of the major changes on stage, they also included a long list that flew by in a more detailed trailer. If you didn’t manage to catch them all, here’s what to expect from The Witcher 3 Remastered:
The remaster will be the perfect opportunity for players to dive into a brand new playthrough ahead of the new expansion launching in 2027. Songs of the Past will be Geralt’s last hurrah before he passes the baton over to Ciri for The Witcher 4 in 2028.
The expansion is being co-developed by Fool’s Theory and CD Projekt RED. It will also include the same graphical upgrades and quality of life features found in the remastered version, and will only be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
