Back in 2019, the Horrible Histories team of comedians and writers created a hit sitcom that has been replicated around the world. Ghosts follows a married couple who inherit a country house, only for the wife to bang her head and suddenly she can see and hear the spooks who have died there over the years, from Robin the Caveman to a disgraced Tory MP who died with his trousers down in the 1990s. The original British version concluded after five series in 2023, with the couple Alison and Mike selling up the house to a hotel firm. And now, a big-screen film called Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is coming to cinemas this Halloween, with the first trailer launched today.
And what’s particularly fun and unique about the story the Ghosts team has been saving for the film is that the spooks finally get to leave the grounds of Button House. When some teenagers break into the building, which is undergoing hotel works, they use a ouija board, and suddenly Simon Farnaby’s Julian the Tory MP ghost has possessed the body of one of the living boys, before running off to find Alison and Mike at their new home.
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is exclusively in UK cinemas from October 23, 2026.
