Titled Override, the new season features the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Joker, Sora and Crash Bandicoot, as well as Geralt of Rivia, Ryu, Lara Croft and Master Chief.

Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4 release date and downtime

Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4 ‘Override’ has an August 20 release date on consoles, PC and mobile.

The content will be available to play following a period of server downtime, which kicks off at 7am BST UK time on the morning of August 20.

That’s 11pm PST (on August 19) / 2am EST in the US, and 8am CET for fans living in Europe.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X: “Break the rules. Change the game.

“Downtime for v42.00 begins at 2 AM ET (6 AM UTC) with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand.”

According to the Epic Games server status page, the Season 7 downtime is expected to last for 5 hours, meaning the game should be back online by 12pm BST.

Matchmaking will be disabled at 6.30am BST, so you’ll need to login before then if you want one final game before downtime begins in full.

Fans can use the downtime to download and install update 42.00, which is essential if you want to jump back into the action once servers come back online.

And the new update is definitely worth installing, because it introduces lots of new gameplay features and rewards for players to enjoy.

As you can see from the image above, Battle Pass owners will automatically unlock Sonic the Hedgehog, and can level up to nab skins such as Kitty Wins, Phantom, Grace Crowne, Geno, Mali, Bastian and Wrixel. It looks like Wrixel is a customisable character with over 1 million combinations.

Sonic’s pal Tails is unlockable as a Sidekick, complete with his own cosmetics. Emote transformations see Sonic turn into Super Sonic, and there are also a selection of launch week rewards.

Elsewhere, a recent Fortnite trailer gives fans a look at some of the new locations and gameplay features launching as part of the new season.

Sonic the Hedgehog will play a big part, with the Green Hill Zone joining the map, alongside Rings and speed boosters.

There’s a Pac Man island shaped like one of the game’s Ghosts, as well as a Jungle Lair and an area that appears to have been built by Doctor Robotnik.
