Nintendo has stunned fans by quietly dropping free updates to two major franchises. The two games are now on the list of original Nintendo Switch titles that have been given no-cost upgrades when played on the latest Nintendo system.
Owners of a Nintendo Switch 2 console can now enjoy the new content for both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pikmin 3 Deluxe without spending a penny. The two new updates arrived this week with no fanfare. However, they include serious updates to improve the games’ quality of life on Switch 2.
The update to the Switch 2 version of Pikmin 3 Deluxe dropped first, landing on Monday, August 31. It includes support for enhanced visuals, making the most of the Switch 2’s impressive display.
Nintendo promises “improved image quality” on the Switch 2 in handheld, as well as having optimised the game for high-resolution TVs. GameShare and GameChat support has been added, allowing two people to play Bingo Battle together locally or online.
Gamers who want to go back to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have been given a more substantial update to enjoy, with more gameplay features as well as improved visuals. Nintendo has updated the game to include faster loading times, too.
However, the bigger update is the inclusion of eight-player races in local multiplayer on one Switch 2 system. GameShare support was also added, allowing players to use CameraPlay during races with 2-4 players locally or online with GameChat.
