It’s a good week to be a retro gaming fan, as two new releases channel the spirit of the old-school, specifically the N64. Star Fox 64 and Goldeneye are two of the most beloved Nintendo 64 games ever made, earning millions of fans, and in the case of Star Fox, a recent remake for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The aforementioned games are so beloved that they have inspired two new releases launching this week. Agent 64 Spies Never Die is a new first-person shooter that’s heavily inspired by Goldeneye, while Wild Blue Skies is an on-rails shooter that has been influenced by Star Fox 64.
Agent 64 Spies Never Die is out now exclusively for PC (via Steam). The game is currently discounted to around £17.50, but will typically cost £20.
Blending Goldeneye with Perfect Dark, Agent 64 not only plays like the N64 classic, but it also utilises a similar graphical style.
Players control a secret agent named John Walter, who is tasked with saving the world from his arch-nemesis Dominic Pulp.
It features 14 missions in total, each with multiple objectives that must be completed to unlock new bonuses, including big head mode.
“Traverse skyscrapers, nightclubs, museums, catacombs, and snow bases in a heart-pumping journey of espionage,” reads the official description.
Much like Goldeneye, it can be played in single-player, but also co-operatively with friends online or in split-screen.
Launching on August 13, Wild Blue Skies is not as faithful to the source material as Agent 64, but it’s clearly inspired by Star Fox and other on-rail shooters.
Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the game features a gorgeous cartoon art style, which perfectly complements the fast-paced action.
Players take control of the Blue Bomber squad, who are tasked with restoring peace and pushing back the evil Grimclaw’s forces.
Much like Star Fox, the game features branching paths and other secrets for extra replayability.
A demo is also available for anybody keen to check out the old-school action and chase those high-scores.
